Don't Do this in 2022: Outdated Instagram Tips That You Should Stop Doing Right Now

If you are using Instagram for your business, then you are in for some treat. Because we are going to talk about what's in and what's not when it comes to marketing using Instagram.

In addition to organic marketing, online marketers are also leveraging the power of influencers and paid advertising on Instagram. They have been successful in this endeavor with 70% of the top 100 brands on Instagram being from the U.S., Japan, and China having spent more than $1 million on Instagram ads in 2017 alone.

Here is a list of outdated Instagram tips that you should stop doing right now.

#1 THAT FOLLOW - UNFOLLOW TECHNIQUE

I hope that we know this by now, but that 'follow-unfollow method' is not helping you and your account as well. If you are still doing it, please stop right now.

If you don't know what it is, well, basically, it is where you engage with lots of accounts you follow then so that they will notice you, hoping they would follow you too, then, later on, unfollow them. This method not only hurts their algorithm but also hurts yours.

People are also trying to grow their accounts on Instagram, so why not just stop toying with people's dreams and hopes that you followed them and that you're willing to be part of their journey and then when you get their attention, you're just gonna unfollow. Bad practice, stop it.

#2 POSTING EVERYDAY ON INSTAGRAM FOR THE SAKE OF POSTING

Remember this and repeat this over and over: Quality over quantity.

People using this platform are growing to be wiser day by day and many entrepreneurs like you now putting much effort into giving out quality content each day, and if you are still thinking that you are being followed and attracting your target audience by simply posting stuff, no dear, that's not gonna cut it. Yes, you still have to plan and get your strategies in place, but with that planning and strategizing keep in mind to ask yourself these questions, "Is it beneficial to the people that I would like to serve?" or "Am I giving a solution to their need?", "Is it relevant to my business?" or " Is it even entertaining?" If the answer is no, you'd rather not post it.

#3 USE OF IRRELEVANT HASHTAGS TO GAIN ATTENTION AND SHOW UP WHEN PEOPLE SEARCH FOR IT

Anything irrelevant is hurting your account instead of helping it. Gone were the days when people use this technique just so they would come out of a search and then people would click on your post, and it's not even relevant to the content that they're looking for. Instead of people liking you, people will think of it as a desperate move just to gain followers and they will hate it.

#4 USING COVERS TO CLICKBAIT POTENTIAL FOLLOWERS

Some people are using covers, especially for their stories because, in their mind, it's gonna lead people to click it to find out what's in those stories, sorry, people don't have the time for that, and instead of clicking they leave.

There are millions of contents out there that people are so quick to click past those kinds of stories or reels. So, stop it. If you think that you're content is really valuable, just share it, enough suspense, okay?

and #5 JOINING ENGAGEMENT PODS FOR THE SAKE OF ENGAGEMENT

To be honest, I have tried joining these kinds of engagement pods, not on Instagram, but on Youtube. When I was still being impatient to grow my own channel, so I know. Not only are you going to be bored seeing content that you don't like, but you are also obliged to leave comments for content that has no relevance to you.

If you are going to do it on Instagram, you are just messing with your algorithm, so instead of Instagram letting you find contents that are relevant to you or of use to you, you'll be engaging with content that has nothing to do with you, and worse, content that belongs to the category of 'posting just for the sake of posting and sooner or later, you'll get bored and hate doing it.

So, there you have it, I hope that list helps you today in planning and strategizing your next Instagram practices. If you find value in what you've read, be a friend to someone and share this article with them. Thank you and God bless!!!
